Grease is the Word
Five Reasons to get your tickets NOW for "Grease" at The Carnegie
There's something magical happening at The Carnegie in Covington right now, and if you haven't secured your tickets for "Grease" yet, here are five compelling reasons to stop what you're doing and head to thecarnegie.com immediately:
1. Pure, Unadulterated Nostalgia
Let's be honest - we all need a little "Summer Lovin'" in our lives right now. "Grease" isn't just a musical; it's a time machine that transports you straight back to simpler times, first crushes, and the belief that everything could be solved with the perfect leather jacket and a good hair day. The Carnegie's production captures that nostalgic magic perfectly, reminding us why this show has remained a beloved classic for decades.
2. A Cast That Brings the Heat
Nick Abouzeid and Monique Churchill as Danny and Sandy are a blast; he's effortlessly cool and she's one of the most consistent vocalists I've ever heard. Her transformation at the end also showcases her significant acting prowess. But the real magic happens when the entire ensemble takes the stage - from Indya Lincicome's fierce Betty Rizzo, Jack Haroutunian's impressive comedic timing (and falsetto), Evan Blust's locked in dancing as Kenickie, and Annika Jonker's immersive take on "Frenchy." Josh Galloway practically steals the show as "Teen Angel." There's not a weak link in this cast full of CCM, Otterbein, and local musical theatre performers. And what about that special guest power? Paige Davis as Miss Lynch brings that perfect touch of star quality that elevates the entire production.
3. Eric Byrd's Direction and Choreography
Under Eric Byrd's expert direction and choreography, every number feels both familiar and surprisingly fresh. The dance sequences are tight, energetic, and absolutely joyful to watch. You can tell this is a director who understands not just the mechanics of the show, but its heart and soul. He's not trying to be profound with this one, nor should he. It's a perfect summer night out at the theatre. "Greased Lightning" and "Born to Hand Jive" were two of my favorites. Also, special mention to Gina Cerimele-Mechley for convincing fight sequences.
4. A Production Team That Gets It Right
From Tyler Gabbard's scenic design to Cat Schmeal-Swope's costume design, every element feels carefully crafted to serve the story. The technical elements - Julie Cowger's lighting, and Missy White's hair and makeup work - all combine to create that perfect "Grease" atmosphere we're all craving. And did I mention there's an actual car on stage? Plus, Matthew Umphreys' music direction is spot on with a rocking live band bringing enthusiasm and life to the classic soundtrack.
5. The Carnegie Magic
There's something special about experiencing live theater in an intimate venue like The Carnegie. Every joke lands, every note soars, and you feel genuinely connected to the performers and the story. It's theater at its absolute finest - professional quality with that warm, local touch that makes you feel like you're part of something special.
Trust me on this one - "Grease" at The Carnegie is the feel-good theatrical experience we all need right now. Sometimes you just know when something is going to be special, and this production has all the ingredients for pure theatrical joy.
“Grease” runs through August 24th at The Carnegie. Get your tickets at thecarnegie.com before they're gone. Your inner teenager will thank you.
